It was simply amazing how few walkers were showing the strain after passing 20km.


Yes, the intensity was increasing, but the women showed amazing control.


Now, many walkers had to find their groove.


Amazingly, with the USA in an intense heat wave, our walkers continued to be blessed with cool spitting skies.

GARCÍA LEÓN finally found that crack and pulled 10 seconds ahead of ZDZIEBŁO

ZDZIEBŁO wasn't broke by any means. She grabbed some nutrition and reengaged in the battle.


MITCHA-COFFEY continued with incredible determination.


Meanwhile, CASEY was reeling in MELVILLE.


MITCHA-COFFEY's plan was unfolding perfectly as she moved up to 23rd.


CASEY passes MELVILLE and opens up a gap.


MELVILLE wasn't done yet. She was going to complete her double with grit.


GARCÍA LEÓN had made her move, but wasn't pulling away. The race was still on.


ZDZIEBŁO was stealing a few seconds back.


The racers now were in a battle hoping the time bomb that the added 15km placed on their bodies.


One minute you can feel fine, as if one could keep pacing along indefinitely


and then they all knew at any moment the bottom could drop out and the "death march" could start.


However, these champions were having none of it


forward to the finish it was!
