I absolutely love that Heffernan paid tribute to Ireland when he basked in the glow of success. It's refreshing to see something other than the me me me attitude that can pervade sports.

Heffernan crossed the line in 3:37:56 and was in tears.

They didn't last long as the celebration began.

His wife looked just a little bit happy!

Finally, his really victory lap began.

Meanwhile, Ryzhov had business to complete finishing second in 3:38:58, a personal best.

Rounding out the medalist was Jared Tallent in 3:40:03 to complete an amazing comeback.
