Stauch started race walking in seventh grade when his coach approached him about a new scoring event in NY school system. Stauch's first race was a one mile race, on a dirt track, finishing in a blazing 13:11.  Stauch is very proud of the fact that he beat everyone, even the girls.

Stauch's winning ways continued when he improved his pace quite a bit and won the 10K NAIA collegiate championship in less than 47 minutes.  That year, Stauch narrowly missed competing in the first Goodwill games with a top 5 finish at the 20K TAC Senior National Championship in Eugene, Oregon in a time of 1:28:11.  The next year, Stauch qualified and competed at the World Cup in NYC where he walked his PR in a time of 1:27:26.  Later that year Stauch qualified for the World University Games, but got injured during the race.  After healing, Stauch walked the NYC marathon, which had a official race walking division, in a time of 3:44 and change.  Later in the year, Stauch won the NAIA championship for the third time getting the national record in a time of 41:56 and impressing his grandmother to boot. Having a disappointing Olympic Trials, complete with puking on his shoes, Stauch set his sights on America's cup in Mar del La Plata, Argentina. Stauch and his teammates won the 20K championship, the first America's Cup the US ever won.

Stauch stopped walking the following year. His wife claims, she saved him.  Stauch was inducted into his college hall of fame in 1999. Stauch now resides in Las Vegas, with his son Benjamin and his daughters Katherine and Alexander, where he is Retail Sales Manager for Famous Footwear. After managing their highest volume store, Stauch now presides over their latest super store. Stauch also manages his son's baseball team, which has won numerous championships as well as his daughter's soccer team.
