2009 - 20K NATIONAL RACE WALK

The morning couldn’t have been more picture perfect for a 20K race walk. With temperatures in the upper  50’s at the start of the race, low humidity, and most of the course in deep shadow the athlete’s couldn’t have hoped for any better conditions. This year’s 20K men’s Nationals in Eugene, Oregon at the historic Hayward field saw a small, but highly competitive group of race walkers toe the line.

Top contenders included Tim Seaman, gunning for his 37th National title, Patrick Stroupe a young race walker with incredible talent and the fastest seed time recorded this year of the field, Ben Shorey, former junior national race walking champion and junior national meet record holder, as well as Olympian John Nunn. The biggest question marks were Shorey and Nunn as no one was sure what shape they were in.
