2008 50km USA Race Walk - Olympic Trials Photo Story

Philip Dunn, a two-time Olympian was a heavy favoriate. With Kevin Eastler, John Nunn, and Tim Seaman all injured, the only challenge could and would come from young upstart Matt Boyles. Dunn, a consistant and experienced walker who peaks at just the right time, was sure to walk a smart race. He took the lead right at the start and walked side by side with Boyles through almost 30K when Boyles made a move. Pulling ahead for a few kilometers, Dunn stayed focused and then surged back. By 40K it was almost over with Dunn comfortably marching through the course ahead of Boyles looking stronger than he had all day. As the graceful Dunn continued around, his strength wasn't unexpected, it's what Dunn does. Finishing first, he is now in a position to make his third Olympic Team. His last test is to get a B standard at the 50K, which he will surely do at the 50K World Cup in Russia later this season.
