2008 50km USA Race Walk - OLympic Trials Photo Story

Curt Clausen is a true Champion. While today's time might not indicate it, his time showed much more than the digits convey. Clausen, a three time Olympian, started the race with no intention of winning it, no intention of finishing at the front of the field, and really no intention of finishing it. He was here because a sport that gave him so much over the years needed a good showing at a premier event. With many of the top walkers in the in US injured, Clausen knew the field needed a deep representation of quality walkers. Many athletes have raced to help a team or meet director, but a 50K is much more than a race. Clausen struggled to finish, walking on muscle memory. However, his feat was as impressive as many of his victories, more so given today's world of selfish attention seeking athletes.
