2008 - 40K NATIONALS

Early Pack at 40K Race Walk Nationals

Sharp and Kissenger
It wasn't long before the heat went to work on the leaders

Once again the first major race in the U.S. after the Olympics was the 40K Nationals. As the sun rose over  Joe Palaia Park in Ocean Township it felt as if the heat from Beijing was here to challenge the thirty five brave walkers lined up at the starting line for the 70th annual 40K National Championship. The race turned into a last man standing contest as the 90 degree heat and humidity took its toll on everyone from the leaders to those trailing behind.

Ray Sharp came out of retirement ,again, to defend his title. Theron Kissinger hoped to derail Sharp’s coming out party. The two battled through the first half of the race, but the veteran Sharp proved too much winning his third title in a row with a time of 3:58:52. Kissinger placed 2nd in 4:03:55.
