The Night Before the
IAAF 2006 Race Walking World Cup

Twas the night before the World Cup and not a creature was stirring. OK that's not really true. While most athlete's were resting up for the big day, I cruised around La Coruna to check out its night time beauty.

Ever want to walk through the finish line of the World Cup, well if you were out at night, you could.

While the course was quiet, there was still a bit of nightlife on the quaint streets of La Coruna.

Earlier before the sun went down, I attempted to get a picture of the Italian team in front of the surfing statues. Alas, my Italian failed and they didn't understand. So no Grandisimo pic for my friend Donato. Instead these friendly Russian girls posed. However, I do not think they understood enough English for me to explain how to set the shot up.

What I wanted was a shot like this with them in front.

Lighting the night is this wonderful lighthouse whose structure has existing in one form or another for nearly two millenium and is the only working Roman lighthouse in the world.
